About Spice Bank

Spice Bank is the personal project of chef Marie Van Cauwelaert, shaped by her international experience, independence, and a clear vision of what dining should feel like.

Marie’s journey began in Bangkok, where she spent a year immersing herself in Thai cuisine. There, she sharpened her skills and gained her first experience in a Michelin-starred kitchen at Bo.lan. This period left a lasting impression and continues to influence her cooking in a subtle, intuitive way.

Back in Belgium, she was given the opportunity to become Head Chef at Le Pristine Café, where she refined her craft under the guidance of Sergio Herman. She later continued to build her experience in several renowned kitchens, including Untitled and The Jane, where she developed a strong sense for bold flavours and a deep respect for ingredients.

With Spice Bank, Marie’s long-held dream of opening her own restaurant becomes a reality. It is a place where she has full creative freedom,  not only in the kitchen, but in every detail of the experience. From the furniture to the smallest accessories, each element has been carefully selected to reflect her vision.

At Spice Bank, she follows her own path. Instead of a fixed menu, she offers an à la carte experience, giving guests the freedom to choose what they want to eat. Her cooking focuses on high-quality products, handled with care and presented in a simple, refined way.

The restaurant is set in a historic former bank building in the heart of Antwerp, now transformed into a contemporary space. At its centre is an open kitchen, bringing guests closer to the energy of the service and creating a direct connection between the chef and the room.

With a warm interior and continuous service from lunch through dinner, Spice Bank is designed to feel both relaxed and considered , a place where guests can feel at home, where warmth is central, and where flavour, freedom, and a genuine love for hospitality come together.
